Town That Refused to Serve Sarah Sanders Now Needs Emergency Funds Because Suddenly Nobody Wants to Go There

What a shame when your ignorance comes back to bite you square in the ass and has an adverse affect on everyone around you. The tiny little town of Lexington, VA is now crying out for help because one woman took it upon herself to boot a customer, Sarah Sanders, from her restaurant because of the job she holds.

The Roanoke Times Reports:

Rockbridge Regional Tourism approved a recovery plan to boost its marketing after The Red Hen restaurant controversy brought a slew of negative national media coverage this summer.

The regional tourism board, with members from Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County, met with the Lexington City Council on Thursday for an update on tourism initiatives and numbers.

The board had initially approved the recovery plan soon after news of The Red Hen controversy was spreading across the country. At the end of June, the restaurant’s owner declined to serve presidential press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders when she visited the restaurant.

Not only are they finding it hard to get tourists back to their town, they are using emergency funds to do so.

Fox News Reports:

The area’s regional tourism board is pulling together emergency funds to boost its digital marketing campaign, the Roanoke Times reported Sunday. The money is normally saved, however, officials agreed the region is in desperate need of positive coverage after the Sanders controversy.

The tourism board serves Lexington, Va., where The Red Hen is located, and other communities that are about three hours from Washington, D.C.

Following the incident, the tourism board was flooded with thousands of calls and emails — and the complaints are still coming. The office received a letter Thursday from a Georgia family that wrote to say it would never return because of what happened.

If you own a small business, let this be a lesson in ethics.
